Vodka from Russia or Iceland? Just make it smooth.
June 25, 2007 – 8:19 amSeems to be a fair amount press around vodka lately, especially from Reyka Vodka, Iceland’s first and only premium vodka. They were featured in an e-mail from AdCritic.com as well as several posts on Adrants.
My favorite line, especially as flavored vodkas become more prevalent in the US:
In Iceland, we like to drink vodka because we like the taste of vodka.
Some countries like to drink the flavored vodka.
But here in Iceland, if you want the taste of banana, you just eat a banana.
The only flavored vodka we make is vodka flavored vodka.
Thanks Iceland.
According to a Washington Post article called “Infused with the Flavors of Russia”
“The American mentality is that vodka should have no taste,” says co-owner Aaron McGovern. “But in Russia, they do.”
The only flavored vodka I like is Absolut Citron mixed with lemonade. I can’t imagine vodka with cinnamon.

“Stolichnaya” aka Stoli sells $2 billion a year worldwide. Will Reyka make a dent in that? Probably not, but they probably don’t need to in order to be successful.
I appreciate their creativity and I may need to reward them with some of my own funds and give it a sample for myself (it runs about $25 for a 750 ml bottle).
Cheers.

Also, I got contacted from Special Ops Media who is handling publicity for Reyka.
I was impressed with them reaching out to the blogging community on behalf of the brand, especially only a few hours after my post.
One of the interesting items is that I learned about their environment practices after the post:
Reyka Vodka is a“green” vodka, distilled using sustainable and clean energy from geothermal heat. Hats off to that as well.
Also, they wanted to let me know about the contest they are running, so I wanted to post a link to that below.
In honor of Iceland’s 63rd birthday, Reyka Vodka and Iceland Naturally have just announced a once in a lifetime contest for 1 lucky winner and 9 friends to fly to Iceland for three days and 2 nights of partying, soaking in the Blue Lagoon, sight seeing and to attend the world renowned Iceland Airwaves Music Festival.
Any US or Canadian resident over 21 can enter to win here: http://www.icelandnaturally.com/Reyka/

The temp as been in the single digits here in KC and my comfort food lately has been air popped popcorn drizzled with olive oil and a lovely tall Greyhound — made with Reyka Vodka — an old movie and I’m set for the night! Love my “green” vodka! Makes a smooth vodka tonic, too.
