Verizon: 10 billion text messages per month and counting

July 24, 2007 – 4:27 pm

According to Reuters, Verizon Wireless said its customers sent and received more than 10 billion text messages in June.

Verizon has about 25% of the US mobile market share. Throw in the other carriers and that adds up to a boatload (technical term) of text messages every month.

Still think you can ignore the mobile market as a communication channel?

Can you hear me now?

  2. wow. those are some big numbers.

i recently wrote a little something about txt msgs. as a designer/artist at my core there is always the form/function debate. text messages are PURE function, but their simplicity takes on beautiful form. and they’re obviously something we can’t ignore.
