NFL to require sideline photographers to wear vests with logos

From the “seems odd but whatever” department, apparently the NFL is going to require sideline photographers to wear vests that include both a Canon and Reebok [details] via mediabistro.com

Sports apparel with logos has been the norm for quite a while in professional sports and has trickled down to youth sports recently as well.

If you play for a team but don’t like the sponsor, you don’t really have a choice. It becomes more interesting when you have conflicting sponsorship deals, including a team jersey with a Reebok logo but an individual sponsorship deal with Nike.

As Jack Zibluk, Vice President of the National Press Photographers Association (NPAA) points out, “Boycotting wouldn’t cause a coverage blackout. The only photographers left would be the ones favored by the NFL.”

You know someone is cashing in on this deal, but the whole situation seems over the top. What are your thoughts?

  2. Whatever keeps my ticket prices down.

Soccer in Europe has long ago given up on any status regarding uniforms. Their jersey’s don’t say United or Arsenal, they say AIG or Emirates.

Now you are seeing the LA Galaxy of MLS go with Herbalife rather than Galaxy.

How much longer before the Chiefs have red uni’s with Sprint across the front? Or the Yankees with New York Life? (or whatever)

It’s just the way it goes.
